CHaOS have run our Summer Science Roadshow since 2002, and it's grown to become a four-week tour! We take a van full of our hands-on experiments and a mini-bus full of enthusiastic demonstrators to a wide variety of venues around the country. Our roadshow involves as many as 40 student volunteers, and we've visited locations from Devon to Glasgow and lots of places in between!
The roadshow takes place in July each year, and the CHaOS team visits a range of schools, town halls, community centres and festivals. You can read about our previous roadshows in more detail below by downloading copies of our roadshow reports.
The 2011 Summer Science Roadshow will be our 10th! If you have a venue that you'd like us to visit during the coming year's Roadshow, please let us know.
2010The CHaOS Summer Roadshow took part from late June through most of July 2010. We spent a month visiting children in primary and secondary schools during the week and ran events open to the public at weekends. Our route included Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hampshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset. Our team of enthusiastic student volunteers was joined by our usual collection of exciting hands-on experiments, plus some new ones (including trebuchets and a new collection of interesting skulls), to inspire and educate our visitors. We estimate that around 4000 people saw our experiments during that time, and feedback from both our school visits and public events has been overwhelmingly positive! 2009The 2009 CHaOS roadshow took place from late June to late July. Our team of enthusiastic student demonstrators took hands-on experiments to a variety of venues around the country. A detailed report is available by clicking on the front cover image on the right. We started the 2009 roadshow in Cambridgeshire, visiting primary and secondary schools in the first week before moving Northwards. Our first weekend was spent as a visiting exhibition at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, with our own highly personal approach complementing the museum's permanent exhibits. The next week saw us visit four schools in Cheshire, before travelling to central London to visit a secondary school. The second weekend of the 2009 roadshow saw us visit the Home Educator's Summer Festival in Kent, sharing a wide range of our experiments with home-schooled children. From Kent, we travelled to Preston to visit more schools, before heading to North Lincolnshire for our third weekend. There we visited a community centre in Scunthorpe and ran an event in Grimsby Central Hall. Our popular event in Grimsby was filmed by a team from community media project Nunny TV. The fourth week of our 2009 roadshow saw us visit three community centres around Carlisle before returning to Heckington Show in Lincolnshire, where we were enthusiastically received by visitors who'd seen us in previous years! CHaOS is grateful to the following organisations for their generous sponsorship of our 2009 Summer Roadshow: AstraZeneca, the Biochemical Society, the Institute of Physics, the Medical Research Council and the University of Cambridge Active Community Fund. |
